Calcium Prevents Tooth Loss

Calcium is one of the most important minerals for the human body .Calcium helps form and maintain healthy teeth and bone. Almost all the Calcium found in human body is stored in bones and teeth. Nerve cells, body tissues, blood, body fluids contain the rest of the calcium.

Being deficient in Calcium can lead to increased risk of OSTEOPOROSIS, which causes the bone to weaken making them break more easily.

Osteoporosis doesn't just affect bones, it also AFFECT TEETH AS IT CAUSE THE JAW BONE TO BECOME WEAK.THE JAW BONE IS AN ANCHOR FOR YOUR TEETH SO IF IT BECOME DAMAGED, IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT THE TEETH WILL LOOSEN AND POSSIBLY FALL OUT. People who don't have enough calcium in diet are 50% more likely to develop GUM  DISEASES. Thus increasing the risk of PERIODONTAL DISEASES.

FOODS RICH IN CALCIUM THAT YOU CAN CONSUME-

  • Diary products - Milk, Yogurt, Chees(Tofu)
  • Green leafy vegetables - Kale, Spinach, Cabbage, Broccoli, Peas.
  • Beans - Soybeans, Kidney beans, White beans
  • Brown rice, Salmon, Oranges
  • Cereals
  • Foods rich in vitamin D(sunlight, diary products, fish) and Phosphorous(almonds and other nuts, citrus fruits)as vitamin D helps to absorb calcium and phosphorous maximize its bone strengthening benefits.

You can also take supplements, calcium and vitamin D are often taken together as dietary supplements.  To take a tablet isn't difficult but for older people brushing and flossing can be difficult because of joint pain. Then follow these suggestions:-

  1. Switch to an automatic toothbrush.
  2. Attach a rubber ball around the handle of the toothbrush.
  3. Get a toothbrush with a bigger handle.
  4. Use a dental floss that has a handle.

In addition to eating calcium rich foods to keep your teeth healthy u can brush and floss regularly , avoid sugary snacks and drinks and schedule regular visits to your dental surgeon.
